Quiet

Even on a small yacht the motor can be well insolated for sound.

Deck Beams

Deck beams

Deck beams

First of all, the individual cross beams are mounted onto the open hull.

Notches

Reinforced notches represent those places which will later become hatches.

You can clearly see from this picture the camber of beam, the curvature of the deck to the sides.

Side view

Here, you can clearly see the first part of the deck superstructure.

Building the deck

Building the deck

On the supporting lower deck beam construction we laminate an underlay for the teak decking using ship plywood.

If desired, we will build you a sandwich construction for the deck, made up of plywood, a layer of extremely lightweight plastic and then another layer of plywood.

Teak Beam Deck

Working on the teak beam deck

First of all, we paint the ship plywood, or base, with resin.

Then we laminate the individual teak rods on top.

Spacers

Small wooden wedges makes sure that the distance between the individual teak rods is uniform.

The teak beams are positioned in a particular shape up to the middle part of the deck, which is called king plank.

Coach roof

We also give our coach roofs a teak surface.

Priming the teak deck

Priming the teak deck

First of all, the edges of the teak rods are gone through once again.

Cleaning

Afterwards, all the pieces of dirt are removed using a sharp-edged tool and a vacuum cleaner.

Primer

Following this, we paint primer into the edges by hand.

Every single teak rod

This is a very time-consuming job.

Finished

This is what a fully-treated deck looks like.

Sealing the seams

Sealing the seams in the teak decking

Teak wood only has a shrink value of approx. 1 %, but as a result of the extreme effects of the water and sun, one cannot place the rods perfectly seemless next to one another.
The elastic sealing material also improves the slippy surface for shoes and so ensures the deck is safe for you to stand on.

Sealing the seams in the teak decking

All around

This is also a considerable job, as often more than one thousand feet of sealant needs to be laid.

Spatula

In order to make sure the seams have been sealed one hundred percent, the sealing material is applied smoothly using a spatula.

Afterwards the deck looks like this.

Sanding away

Finally, the superfluous sealant is carefully sanded away.
